Continuing our winning series of very old Macduffs, there should be no particular surprises to connoisseurs who have already experienced the hidden gems of casks 6886 and 6909. Expect the usual overripe fruit galore (banana, passion fruit, peaches, pineapple) and the soft and chewy texture of previous releases, with a note of Caribbean spicy rum and dark tea… and a finale that grows endlessly on pleasantly tannic and sour notes of oak from the sherry cask, leaving the palate stimulated and wanting for more. A perfect contrast to the sweetness of the fruit. Another wonderful example of very old Speyside malt enriched rather than dominated by the sherry, that will keep to grow in complexity as years in the bottle will bring further subtle refinement to it.
