After the success of our first release of this sublime blended malt from two very famous Highlands distilleries, we let the remaining stock age for further 8 months in second fill PX casks. The difference is immediately evident: while this is not a wine-dominated ultra-sweet and syrupy whisky (it retains the clean and mineral profile of the distillate), the smoother, creamier and more buttery character is obvious. Again we find notes of candied oranges, plumcake and nuts, and a very flowery and natural malty sweetness. But what is surprising in this new release is how the waxy notes are amplified, and after the initial creamy and biscuit-like character a smoky and slightly peated note becomes now evident. A pleasant and easy malt of great complexity and richness.
