We have waited a long time to release this gem, but it was worth it because it’s one of the finest examples of what second fill sherry cask maturation can do in 40 years. From the first sniff you can detect a hint of winey character, but sherry is not the dominating trait. Apricots, peaches, propolis are the most obvious aromas before gradually becoming deeper, darker, antique like an old library, but always remaining fresh… with orange rind notes. The same complex interplay of tannins and fresh fruits is evident at the palate: it’s only moderately bitter - like a fine vermouth - but then the sweetness and oranges come back in full force, before ending on a mouthwatering note of aniseed and liquorice. A masterpiece.
