Beware the scary monster! Our mysterious Beathan returns… in the wildest possible form: a high voltage version at cask strength! This unruly whisky is the creation from a very old Highlands distillery on the days when they want to go crazy and add a little peat, and it’s always guaranteed to be a “bad boy”. You can feel it from the extremely leathery, farmy, earthy aromas; it’s only slightly winey (thanks to the 24 months finish in a second fill Oloroso cask), but it has very oaky note… sawmill? Pinewoods? When tasting, please approach with caution and add a drop of water: initially quite sweet, it then turns drier, astringent, winey. There is a funky combination of pepper and peat, with notes of damp earth and pine needles (resin included). The finale is long and wild: woody, with plenty of liquorice root and a sweet/sour fruitiness of dried plums.
