A particularly fruity Speyside malt, enhanced by a long finish for five years in a very active first fill Pedro Ximenez barrel. The result is particularly intense and expressive, as expected, with a sweetly winey nose, rich with notes of orange marmalade, brown sugar, and a noticeable but not intrusive oaky presence. At the palate we find overripe oranges, and the initial winey and tannic attack is soon replaced by sweet fruitiness: black cherries, ripe papayas, and a touch of chestnut honey. There is a herbal note, like deeply infused black tea. It almost feels like a liqueur. The tannic note returns in full strength towards the end, for a finale that strikes a great balance between ripe sweetness, pepper, herbal notes, dry sherry and honey.
