Selecting hand-picked first fill Oloroso casks to enhance this classic Islay malt for 10 months is our way of stating our love for the marriage between peat and sherry, an uncommon match that is always winning in our book. In this release, the influence from the sherry casks is mostly evident at the nose: winey, spicy and nutty on top of the expected smoky and maritime notes. Not particularly fruity, but very dry and appetizing. At the palate, the influence of the wine is less immediately evident, and it expresses itself more in terms of interaction with the peat and the tarry notes than in obvious Oloroso character. As it often happens, this means an accent on organic, earthy and leathery notes, that complement the smokiness very well.
