From a distillery just north of Glasgow, this single malt is a vatting of two ex-sherry unpeated casks and an ex-bourbon cask at a medium peat level. The addition of a lightly peated touch adds liveliness, complexity and fire to the mellowness of the very fruity and sweet Oloroso-matured whisky. The result is a perfect balance, in true Highlands style, between creamy maltiness, a touch of honeyed and raisiny fruitiness, and that delicate whiff of peat smoke that is loved even by those who don’t usually like peated whisky. The finale grows particularly intense with a dry, spicy and tannic character, and notes of candied orange peel, citrus and beeswax.
