A totally unrestrained Ledaig for the truly brave of heart, and one of the most peated whiskies from this distillery that we have ever had the pleasure to taste. As usual with Ledaig, the core distillate is farmy, very organic, with just the right amount of edginess to make it unusual and unique. There is peat smoke, but also lots of wet leather and damp turned earth: close your eyes, take a sniff and a sip, and imagine riding a horse while ploughing a field in the countryside. On top of this weird but not dissonant combination of smoke and farmy notes, the sherry adds its winey, dry and slightly astringent contribution. The finale is spicy, peppery, full of liquorice… with the magical interaction of sherry and peat.
