From a Speyside distillery characterised by a usually robust bodied single malt, this 21 months finish in 1st fill Pedro Ximenez cask helped in amplifying the richness and complexity which we find in this bottling. At the nose it’s winey, slightly oxidative, but in a light and playful style and quite restrained. The balance continuously shifts between the different influences: at the first sip it’s very sweet, smooth, and richly fruity. Peaches, apricots, plums… Then it turns winey, with mineral touches too. There are liquorice root, chestnuts, cereal flour. It manages to strike a fine balance between fruity richness, warm and smooth, and a tighter tannic influence. Towards the end it becomes slightly more herbal, with the tannins becoming spicier.
