One of the wildest, most unpredictable and unusual malts in Scotland comes from this distillery on the Isle of Mull. Often unjustly overlooked because of its sometimes flamboyant aromas, Tobermory in the last twenty years has often surprised us with a whisky which is powerful and still made in an old fashioned Highlands style in spite of being a maritime one. This bottling is one of the cleanest and smoothest we have ever tried. Smooth, yes, but also robust, with a pleasant cereals and honey sweetness, and fragrant notes of pears and almonds, a hint of mint, and a subtle suggestion of wax and smoke. A sturdy and trustworthy whisky in a very straightforward style that is not so often easy to find.
