An ultra-rich, sweet and creamy single cask release of the iconic malt from the Isle of Mull, enhanced with a finish of 20 months in a first fill Pedro Ximenez cask to smoothen the edges out of the traditionally wild whisky from this distillery. At the nose it’s sweet but also dark and brooding: plenty of herbal tea, but also cola and bergamot. A whiff of black pepper, to complement the notes of ripe dates, dried plums and raisins. At first sip it’s very chewy but not thick: again, we find herbs infusion, pepper, raisins, plums, and a distinct note of bittersweet chestnut honey. It’s a full bodied but very well-rounded single malt, supple and easy-going, although with a backbone of smooth tannins. The oakiness rises towards the end, without ever becoming astringent, with deeper and darker notes of black tea.
