A very dry oloroso mark is the leading trait of this Benrinnes. The aroma is quiet, hinting at the winey and zesty character of the sherry and rich with juicy notes of dried raisins, but it doesn’t completely prepare to the intensity of the palate. This is a whisky with a taste which is lively and prickling, with an underlying sweetness but dominated by appetizing sour fruit notes. Yes, it could almost be compared to a fruit salad with oranges, apples, red berries and sour cherries! Towards the end it becomes even slightly astringent, with a peppery touch. Not the most usual kind of Benrinnes, that’s for sure… but once in a while we love to offer quirky expressions of malts from loved distilleries!
