Born from the marriage of four refill bourbon hogsheads, plus one of our very active Virgin Oak casks, this special bottling manages to combine different nuances and styles of this classic Islay Malt. The refill casks provide the breezy and maritime touch, while the stronger oak influence of the Virgin Oak adds just the right amount of robustness and backbone. At the nose it’s quite fresh, lemony, ashy: it’s young and vibrant, powerful and adventurous. At the palate, it’s medium bodied: very salty, with lemon peel and green apple, it then turns towards notes of liquorice and a huge blast of chimney smoke, ash and bonfires. The Virgin Oak adds a slightly darker tone, with notes of tar, burnt pinewood, and a spicy touch of tannins, but without overwhelming the very traditional style of the distillery.
