A very traditionally styled Speyside 12 years old single malt, with a short 15 months finish in Pedro Ximenez barrels to just add a little more body and richness rather than winey overtones. At the nose it’s rich, thick, and multifaceted: there’s even a hint of darkness, suggesting a subdued sort of a toasted or even smoky character. At the palate it’s medium bodied but very intense in flavour, with a classic profile: huge malty sweetness, a touch of beeswax, a vague hint of tropical fruit, and a spicy blast of pepper and mustard. The sweetness of the cereals is moderately enhanced by a suggestion of dried raisins, but in spite of its smoothness, it remains quite dry nonetheless. The evolution in the glass brings out notes of liquorice and soft tannins.
