Another winner from this Speyside distillery, enhanced for four years in a fresh Oloroso sherry butt. In spite of the dry character of the Oloroso, it’s a very fruity, smooth, sunny and easy-going single malt. At the nose it’s rich with ripe bananas, and only a hint of sultana raisins. Plenty of fragrant honey, too. It’s much less winey than expected, and this surely is the effect of the use of a butt, which has a slower influence on the whisky. At the palate it’s waxy, again rich with ripe bananas and red apples, orange peel and cereals. The effect of the sherry is noticed only later, with a growing firm tannic note, until in the finale it becomes very prominent with an ultra peppery, oaky and mineral profile. It remains fruity and sweet, but the spiciness offers a very interesting contrast.
