A special release at traditional 100 UK Proof of this single malt from Speyside, enhanced for 32 months in a first fill Oloroso hogshead: we picked this specific cask from its batch, because in our opinion it has a particularly “old fashioned” sherried style, complex and winey, with a very appetizing dry character. At the nose it’s slightly astringent, nutty, but also pleasantly fruity (peaches and oranges). There’s a clearly oxidative note of good maturation in Oloroso, with a hint of raisins. At the palate it’s particularly complex: the sherry is immediately evident, with a dry attack that then develops on mineral notes, balsamic vinegar, vermouth and orange peel. It remains on a dry citrusy style, without sweetness or honey: quite vibrant and nervous. In the finale, there is a surge of pepper, oak tannins and tea.
