48 months finish in a first fill Oloroso sherry cask gifted this Speyside single malt with an extra layer of complexity, and a balsamic note. At the nose, it’s winey, slightly sour: there is plenty of fruits (candied oranges and apricots), but also a darker note of camphor and anise. At the palate it shows a fine oaky touch, balsamic and intense. Underneath the minty freshness and tannic vividness, it’s creamy and fruity, robust, with a note of beeswax. The tannic presence markedly grows in the finale, with a lingeringly peppery note, full of liquorice root and oak.
