A well balanced match between Macallan and the quirky and colourful fragrance of Marsala! In spite of the obvious influence from the Sicilian wine, it actually doesn’t seem too different in overall style from the classic Macallans matured in Oloroso sherry. The nose seems slightly subdued at first, but soon toasted winey and sweet notes become evident, together with a touch of cinnamon. It’s on the palate, though, that the contribution of the sun-dried Marsala grapes shines with a wonderful interplay of sweet, sour and spicy. Slightly oaky, with a touch of mint and camphor and a background of chestnut honey, it’s very intense and full bodied: its boldness is striking, with the Marsala finish complementing the character of the spirit.
