A very old grain whisky, with a particularly long finish of 46 months in a first fill Pedro Ximenez cask to add an extra layer of sweetness and fruitiness. At the nose it shows evident winey sweetness, gentle and flowery but with marked raisiny overtones, dried plums, but also apricots and peaches, chamomile tea and honey. At the palate it’s rich with ripe fruits: again raisins, dates, then chestnut honey and candied orange. It also has a certain earthy and herbal quality. It’s an extremely smooth whisky, where the delicate and balsamic spirit is well matched by the alternately sweet and sour notes from the Pedro Ximenez. It grows slightly spicier and more tannic, from the long maturation in oak, towards the end, together with stronger herbal and balsamic notes.
