A malt from a secret distillery, that in spite of its age remains almost completely spirit-driven. This is one of those whiskies in which the cask mostly contributes to maturation and to smoothening the edges of the spirit, rather than adding winey notes, too much vanilla or tannins. At the nose it’s wonderfully fruity and clean, with ripe apples and pears: it almost has the fragrance of a fruit distillate. The same fruity character is retained at the palate, which at first may seem deceivingly simple but then it reveals layer upon layer of subtle complexity: beeswax, honey, a very impressive minerality, a hint of tropical fruits. A very unusual, clean and fresh old malt.
