Glenlossie 17yo
A particularly unusual, rich, characterful and flamboyant single malt from this Speyside distillery, to which a finish for 3 years in a Pedro Ximenez cask gave a startling contribution. What immediately strikes at the nose is the overwhelming note of very ripe fruits: bananas, red apples, mango. It’s really a kaleidoscope of fruits, sunny and funky, very deep, organic and estery. There is also the darkly aromatic sweetness of chestnut honey. It’s just as sweet, fruity, raisiny at the palate: richly mouthcoating, creamy, like a box of mixed fruits jellies, but also a note of butter pastries. But there also is a vibrant background mineral character and tannins, and a balsamic hint of anise. The finale is long on liquorice root, honey and pepper.
