A particularly sweet and creamy grain whisky, made even more complex by 16 months in a refill Oloroso sherry butt. North British is renowned for its very soft profile, and this bottling perfectly illustrates its quality without ever hinting at the astringent and spicy oak that many old grains often show. At the nose it doesn’t initially seem so sweet: it remains subdued, with notes of mint and camphor. But great grains often have hidden surprises, and already the first sip (preferably with a drop of water) reveals a warm embracing softness of body and intensity of flavor, with chamomile, alpine herbs, vanilla, milk cream and mint. The aftertaste is soft, honeyed, warm, lingering. An exquisitely caressing and gentle dram.
